Hell DIEvers
Hell DIEvers is a game where your only mission is to reach the top. This can be done with great freedom. The player has a rag dolled body that is limb but can be dragged left and right. The key to the movement is the grappling hook the player has. This can be shot to platforms and other objects within range to help move the player. This is important because there is no jumping, just the grappling hook. Starting in the deepest depths of hell, the player must navigate up through all 5 layers of hell using their limited movement capabilities. Many unique and frustrating obstacles are in between the player and the top, such as knockback traps, false hooks, and annoying jumps. To make matters worse, when you fall there is no death, only lost progress. The level keeps going up from above the starting point. Falling means losing progress. Sometimes you will fall all the way back to the start, sometimes only to a platform that’s still below, but not nearly as far. The gameplay is silly and frustrating, but can still be super enjoyable with the swinging, unique level elements, and the silly ragdoll.
Number of Players
Single player. The player is a ragdoll who must make it out of hell.
Player Goals
Main goal is to make it to the top of the map. Sub goal is to not fall, as that will bring you down to a previous point losing all progress
Emotions
Frustration, anger, yet a desire to overcome great challenge
Experience
The player shoots grappling hooks and swings their limp body towards to top. Dodging traps, making tricky jumps, and interacting with all the unique level elements. Oh and falling, lots of falling
Theme
The game takes place in a hellish landscape heavily influenced by the renaissance eras Dantes Inferno. There are 5 layers that the player must navigate through. Dantes Inferno is a take on the Christian idea of hell, we steered away from having Christian symbolism. The player must get past all the layers of hell and limbo to make it back to the world of the living
Main Actions
Shooting a grappling hook, reeling into it, and dragging their limp body. The grappling hook enables players to climb, swing, and save themselves from falling.
Objects
Spinning traps with immense knockback, wheels used to latch onto and rotate with, hanging panels that can help swing, but some are loose and break off easily, jump pads, moving platforms. These aren’t all fitting with the hellish theme, but they work super great with gameplay, making the climb upwards more exciting.
Controllers
A/D - swing or a little bit move on the ground
Left mouse click - Shooting grappling Hook
Right mouse click - Pull it up
